In My Mother’s Garden
Twelve flowers. Twelve moments of connection across distance. A watercolor series painted from photographs sent by a mother tending her garden in Haiti.
The Story
The illustrations
When my mother began sending me photographs of the flowers blooming in her garden in Haiti, I started painting them as a way to feel close to her again.
Each piece became a quiet exchange — a shared moment across distance. Through watercolor and a slow, layered process, these works hold memory, presence, and the enduring thread of connection between us.
Rooted in Haitian heritage and shaped by life across cultures, this series reflects on belonging, longing, and the beauty of what grows quietly — in gardens, and between people who love each other.
